3 Things We Learnt From Porto 1-5 Liverpool

 1) Robertson bounces back

Anybody who's been watching Liverpool for the past few years, knows how crucial the full-backs are for the team. But, in recent times, it's Trent who has taken the mantle as Liverpool's chief creator. However, as Trent missed the game due to a groin injury, the onus was now on Roberston to deliver. And so he did. He pressed the Porto players constantly and won the ball back higher up the pitch on a number of occasions. He overlapped extremely well with Mane and almost got on the scoresheet. Defensively also, he was on point and covered brilliantly for Van Dijk in the 89th minute. All in all, it was a great performance from him after a disappointing show at the Brentford Community Stadium.

2) Jones stakes his claim

Whatever good Liverpool did last night, Curtis Jones was at the centre of it. For the first goal, Curits picked up the ball, drove into the box and shot which was saved by Costa only to be put into the back of the net by Salah. For the third goal, he won the ball in the middle of the park, broke forward quickly and laid it on to Salah who finished with aplomb. Finally, he played a long pass to Bobby as Costa raced on to clear it but missed it completely and Bobby was able to aim for an empty net and got Liverpool's fourth. After back-to-back encouraging displays against Brentford and Porto respectively, the odds are with him on starting against Manchester City on Sunday.

3) 5-star Liverpool and an almost perfect performance

Last night couldn't have gone more perfectly for the Reds. Both Salah and Mane found themselves on the scoresheet but were withdrawn with half an hour remaining to give them a much needed break before the titanic clash against Manchester City on Sunday. This also allowed Jurgen Klopp to give some minutes to players like Minamino, Bobby and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain. On top of that, Bobby looked sharp and scored twice which is always great. The defense was largely untroubled but they weren't able to keep a clean sheet as Mehdi Taremi pulled one back in the 74th minute. Trent's injury before the game was the only blow but Milner was outstanding again and hopefully, he"ll be able to keep Jack Grealish quiet on Sunday.
