3 Things We Learnt From Liverpool 1-0 Aston Villa

 1) Alisson wasn't at his best today

Alisson didn't have a lot to do during the game in terms of shot stopping but there were a few iffy moments, both in the 1st half and in the 2nd half. In the 1st half, Alisson came out to beat Young to a cross but he slipped.  Luckily for him, Matip was there to cover for him as he came cross to block the cross. In the 2nd half, Matip kept Ings at bay as Alisson charged down to clear the ball but the ball hit Matip's back and ricocheted off as all three battled for the ball. Thankfully, Ali got enough on it and a penalty wasn't given. Alisson should feel pretty lucky that Liverpool managed to keep a clean sheet despite his unconvincing display.

2) Matip and Van Dijk were excellent

Although Alisson had a poor game, both Liverpool centre-backs were excellent. Matip was at his usual best, providing cover for both Trent and even Alisson, when needed. His trademark run into the midfield was also on show in the 2nd half. Van Dijk, on the other hand, didn't have the best start to the game as he allowed Watkins to get goal side and then fouled him for which he was booked in the 13th minute. However, this didn't seem to faze him. He delivered his trademark crossfield passes with perfection. He was not only a threat from set-pieces but he repeatedly kept heading away the ball as Villa threatened from their crosses, late on in the game.

3) Match winner Mo!

Just how cool is Mo Salah from the penalty spot? He has now scored for the 15th consecutive time from the a penalty. Matt Targett and Tyrone Mings did a pretty decent job in containing Mo Salah, atleast up until the penalty was conceded. In the 65th minute, Salah took on Mings as he drove into the box but Mings commited a silly foul to bring him down. The refree pointed to the spot straight away as Mo slotted home to give Liverpool a well deserved lead. His contribution proved to be vital as his strike proved to be the match-winner in the end.
