3 Things We Learnt From Crystal Palace 1-3 Liverpool
1) Alisson, you beauty!
Just how good was Alisson today? I, personally, lost count of the number of occasions he saved Liverpool. In the 1st half, he produced a magnificent save against Mateta 1v1 which was flagged offside but that should take nothing away from the quality of the stop. He also denied Olise. As soon as the 2nd half started, Palace created 2 huge opportunities but failed to take either of them. The 2nd chance, a backheel from Edouard, was straight into Alisson's arms. In the 55th minute, Palace finally got past Alisson as Schlupp's pass created a 2v1 against him which led to Palace's opener. However, his best effort came in the 84th minute when Olise made an out-to-in run and then lobbed him but he raced back to punch the ball away for a corner. If not for Alisson, there might just have been a repeat of Liverpool's 7-2 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa last season.
2) Robertson has been immense in the last few weeks
After a poor start to the season, Andrew Robertson has sprung back to life in the last few weeks. Today he finished the game with 2 assists as he created both of Liverpool's 1st half goals. He now has 7 assists in his last 8 PL games.
3) HUGE 3 points!
Today's performance was Liverpool, in a nutshell, this season. It's not the first time this season that we have seen Liverpool start a game in blistering fashion, go 2-0 up and then completely blow away the lead. However, today, they managed to hold on courtesy of Alisson and some help from VAR. Nothing but a win would've been enough today especially after Man City's draw at Southampton last night and luckily, Liverpool managed to get just that. Not only that, Liverpool managed to come out of this period unscathed despite being shaky in January in the previous seasons under the current management and also losing 3 big players to the AFCON. This keeps the title race alive, just but Liverpool would have to be almost perfect from now on and go a winning run to have any hope of clinching the title.
