3 Things We Learnt From Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

 1) VAR at it again

How on earth did Sanchez stay on after that challenge? What was he trying to do with his outstretched arms and legs like that? Luis Diaz was lucky to come out of it unscathed but the referees and VAR need to do better. Last season, it was Van Dijk who suffered his season ending ACL injury from Pickford's horrendous challenge and back then, even he escaped a clear red card. That was back in October 2020 and it seems that there hasn't been any improvement ever since. It might've been difficult for Mike Dean to see the challenge at that pace but atleast VAR could've asked him to take a look. At the minute, it looks like every week there's at least one, if not few, howlers from the VAR.

2) Mo Salah has his goal, finally

After hitting the post twice against Inter, Salah was looking to get back on the scoresheet. It was proving to be a frustrating afternoon for him after he hit the post once again and also missed a great chance. But Naby Keita's shot was blocked by Bissouma in the box and Liverpool were awarded a penalty. Salah converted his penalty as cooly as ever and in doing so, reached 20 PL goals for this season. This was the 4th time in 5 seasons that he has achieved his feat and he's only the 6th player to do so. The only concern was that he had to be subbed off after his penalty as he was unable to play on. It didn't look serious but when Mo Salah asks to be subbed, you know something's not right. With the game against Arsenal coming up, let's just hope that it's not too serious.

3) Luis Diaz was electric

Luis Diaz looks like a proper Liverpool player. What a phenomenal signing he has been! Every game he plays, he's usually Liverpool's best attacker on the pitch and today, it was no different. He displayed great courage in heading the ball to open the scoring for Liverpool even though Sanchez ran out and caught him pretty badly. Luckily, it didn't do much harm to him and he was able to play on. He was a constant threat with his directness, pace and trickery and could've easily scored atleast one more.
