3 Things We Learnt From Liverpool 0-1 Inter

 1) Trent proves his doubters wrong, again

After his brilliant display against West Ham, Trent continued his form against Inter. In the first half, he made a great challenge on Perisic and covered well against Martinez when Jota gave the ball away. He also displayed good strength when competiting shoulder to shoulder against Martinez. To top it all of, he could've scored from a free kick but his effort was just whiskers away from going in. Overall, it was a great display from him, especially defensively. Opposition teams have always targeted Liverpool's right flank but if Trent continues to perform like this, it's going to get very difficult for them to get anything out of his side.

2) Liverpool aren't great defensively

It's the win that counts but recently, Liverpool haven't been great, especially defensively. Though Trent's defensive displays offer encouragement but that doesn't tell the entire story. They are conceding way too many clear cut chances for any team competing for all the major honours. Having a bad game once in a while is fine but this has somewhat become a trend, especially against the top teams. Against Chelsea and West Ham, Liverpool were lucky not to concede but finally against Inter, the barrier was breached. Liverpool are creating chances themselves and were unlucky not to score tonight but outscoring your opponent to win a game is not a sustainable solution. Liverpool look like a team that needs to score 2 goals to win a game and Jurgen Klopp must find a way to change that.

3) Missed Chances

Despite not playing at their best, Liverpool could've easily won the game. They created a number of chances to win the game but unfortunately, luck wasn't on their side. Matip hit the bar in the 1st half and Salah hit the post twice in the 2nd half. Trent,Van Dijk and Luis Diaz also came very close to scoring for Liverpool but failed to do so. Inter were clearly on top when Martinez scored but Sanchez's sending off helped Liverpool to see out the game and progress into the quarter-finals of the Champions League. With some tough away games coming up, Liverpool need to ensure they tighten up and also be ruthless in front of goal.
