3 Things We Learnt From Manchester City 2-2 Liverpool

 1) Midfield woes

It's a known fact that Manchester City have more quality in the middle of the park than Liverpool but it might have even surprised them how much they dominated the Red's midfield, especially in the first half. Fabinho was bypassed easily and failed to provide any cover for the back four whereas Henderson ran about like a headless chicken. Thiago was the Red's best hope and he delivered after his diagonal ball to Trent led to the first Liverpool goal. Things improved in the 2nd half but it clearly wasn't enough. This season, against the top sides, Liverpool's midfield have failed to stamp their authority. With Henderson's age, Thiago's fitness issues and the uncertain futures of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita, Klopp's work seems cut out for the upcoming transfer window.

2) Mane, The Main Man

There's been a lot of talk about Salah's contract situation this season but the question marks over Mane's new deal rarely grabs the same headlines. However, today showed exactly why it should. Despite the arrivals of Diogo Jota and Luiz Diaz, Mane showed why Klopp still trusts him to start in the big games. In the first half, he was too busy in his own half as City were clearly the better side. However, one minute into the second half, he showed why big players need only one moment to shine as he calmy converted from Salah's beautiful pass to equalise for Liverpool. After Jota's withdrawal, he moved central and held up the ball excellently. Not only was he Liverpool's best forward, his work rate was top notch. FSG have a job at their hands this summer as they try to strike a deal with two of their star forwards.

3) Liverpool need a miracle

The title is out of Liverpool's hand at the moment. It's almost an identical situation to the  18/19 when City won the title with just 1 point and it wouldn't surprise me much if the outcome would be the same again this season, especially with the run-in City have. A lot of people might say that it was a good point for Liverpool than it was for City and it makes sense given that City could've blown away Liverpool in the 1st half but I would've to disagree. All City had to do was to avoid defeat and they did just that. With the quality City have, it's hard to see them dropping points anymore. However, nothing changes for Klopp and his men as they need to win all of their remaining games and hope that somehow City falter.
