3 Things We Learnt From AC Milan 1-2 Liverpool
1) Konate was excellent
You know you've had a good game when Zlatan Ibrahimovic asks for your shirt at FT. Ibrahima Konate completely dominated Zlatan as he won almost all the duels against him. In 27th minute, it was he who didn't allow Zlatan to create the angle to shoot. In the second half, Konate showed great presence of mind as he read all the forward passes and kept Zlatan at bay once again. Finally, right at the end of the game, he made a perfectly timed tackle on Kessie, right at the edge of the box. All in all, it was a very dominating display from the young centre-back.
2) Alex Oxlade Chamberlain impresses
Liverpool might have equalized through Salah but everything about that move was to do with Alex Oxlade Chamberlain. He showed some great footwork to get away from Kessie as he shot but Maignan parried it and it fell for Salah who scored from close range. There was a scare in the 2nd half as he hit the turf with his hands on his left knee but thankfully, it was nothing serious as he was able to continue for the rest of the game.
3) Welcome returns for Gomez and Keita
When the team sheet was announced, it was obvious that Mane and Salah wouldn't play the entire 90 minutes. At the hour mark, both were replaced by Joe Gomez and Naby Keita respectively. Neco Williams moved to the right wing as Gomez came in at right back whereas Minamino moved to the left wing as Keita became the left sided 8. It was great to see them back in action after so long and if Liverpool are to challenge on multiple fronts this season, they need them fit so that they can call upon their services when needed.
