3 Things We Learnt From Leicester City 1-0 Liverpool
1) Mo Salah finally misses a penalty
In the 14th minute, Ndidi brought down Salah in the box. It was a clear foul and the refree pointed straight to the spot. Salah had scored from his previous 15 spot kicks in Premier League and was hoping that this run would continue but Schmeichel had other plans. He saved Mo's initial effort as the ball bounced back to Salah who jumped too early to head the ball but it hit the post. It proved to be extremely costly as Liverpool ended up losing the match and lost further ground in the title race.
2) Mane's form is concerning
Last season wasn't Mane's best season. A lot of people suggested that it was time to break the favoured 'Front 3' and he needed replacing. However, after a well deserved break in the summer, Mane seemed to have found his mojo back and he started getting on the score sheet regularly once again. But, unfortunately, that didn't seem to last long. Currently, he's failed to assist or score in the last 9 appearances for Liverpool. Against Leicester, he probably had Liverpool's best chance from open play but he completely squandered that opportunity. With his contract expiring in 2023, Liverpool might just be better off selling him in the summer if he has another poor season.
3) The title race might just be over
This loss against Leicester was a proper, proper blow to Liverpool's title hopes. Nothing other than 3 points would've been enough and Liverpool failed to get even one. Man City, on the other hand, don't look like losing. It seems as if teams are beaten even before the team sheet is announced. More importantly, Liverpool don't look like winning all the games from now till the end of the season. Add to that, Liverpool are set to lose both Mane and Salah in January and have to travel to places like Stamford Bridge and the Etihad and get a result. It seems that everything's against Liverpool at the minute and it is City's title to lose now.
