3 Things We Learnt From Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle
1) Thiago didn't have the best game
Liverpool didn't have the best start to the game as Newcastle scored the opener in the first 10 minutes from a stunner from Shelvey. It was certainly preventable as Thiago should've cleared the ball but instead, he gave the ball straight to Shelvey who shot from range to score. Shortly after, he once again gave the ball away, this time to Allan Saint-Maximin who ran straight on goal and shot but it was saved by Alisson. Luckily for him, Liverpool won the game as his errors didn't prove to be costly.
2) Konate impresses once again
With Van Dijk out with Covid, Jurgen Klopp was forced to start with Matip and Konate as his centre back pairing. The latter was pretty good especially against Saint-Maximin. He showed great pace to keep Saint-Maximin at bay and made some important interceptions as well. He should've also equalized for Liverpool in the 15th minute but his header was just wide.
3) Trent was excellent
Trent was probably the most decisive player on the pitch. He had huge moments, both offensively and defensively. Firstly, he made a crucial tackle on Ryan Fraser which prevented him from taking a clear shot at goal. It was a fair tackle as he got his foot on the ball. Secondly, he sealed the game for Liverpool with a thuderous strike in the 87th minute of the game. This helped Liverpool create a 2 goal cushion over Newcastle and it also helped to calm down the nerves a little bit. Overall, it was a very complete performance from the English fullback.
