3 Things We Learnt From Liverpool 3-0 Brentford
1) A new Front 3
Liverpool started the game with Jota, Firmino and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain as their forwards. This led to a more improved attacking unit than the one that featured in the EFL Cup against Arsenal as it restored Jota to the left which is probably his best position on the field. Also, starting Alex Oxlade Chamberlain in place of Minamino added more speed to the front line. This could have been a blueprint for Jurgen Klopp for the coming games but that seems unlikely as Oxlade Chamberlain rolled his ankle in the 71st minute of the game.
2) Better setpieces and delivery from the fullbacks
Liverpool were really poor in their setpieces and the deliveries from out wide in their game against Arsenal. But today, both Robertson and Trent Alexander Arnold were on point with their delivery as each of them got an assist to their name. Trent assisted Liverpool's 1st as his corner was initially missed by Van Dijk but Fabinho was there at the far post to score. Robertson, on the other hand, put in a great ball for Alex Oxlade Chamberlain who scored from a wonderful header.
3) Minamino's birthday gift
It was a perfect 27th birthday for Takumi Minamino as he scored a goal, just 3 minutes after coming on. Brentford tried to play out from the back but Firmino won the ball and being as unselfish as ever, laid the ball to Minamino to score. With Mane and Salah away at the AFCON, it's extremely important that Liverpool's other forwards fire in some goals and it was good to see Minamino get on the scoresheet.
